Drink: tea 紅茶

The Japanese love tea. Although they mainly drink a type of green tea おちゃ at home or at work, brown tea - sometimes called black tea - こうちゃ is also hugely popular. Most commonly brown teaこうちゃ is served with lemon, but increasingly one can see ミルクティー mirukutii  tea with milk in 喫茶店 きっさてんkissaten coffee shops.

It's all a bit odd these days as traditions change and as more people are exposed to different types of drinks and diets etc. Tea-shops in Japanese are now called coffee-shops in English.

lot of tea is still sold inきっさてん kissaten, but it tends to be European or Indian or Chinese or herbal tea. Anyway, tea it is. How to pour a cup of tea in Japanese?

If you found it difficult to read, that was also partially due to inconsistencies between hiragana and kanji, a different way of expressing ideas and a printing error. Not that you would worry... There you have it: about as interesting as making tea! Oh, and just in case... Did you know that tea leaves are steeped? We didn't.
